At several public hearings, multiple workers bravely testified in Spanish, sharing firsthand experiences of wage theft, workplace harassment, and fear of retaliation. Their testimonies, alongside those of domestic and service workers, amplified the urgent need for stronger labor protections and galvanized support across city leadership. In a powerful demonstration of coalition-building, we also brought forward a restaurant owner and chef Jennifer Zavala from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/juanatamale\/?hl=en\">Juana Tamale <\/a>who spoke in support of the bill\u2014showing that employer accountability benefits everyone in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to this collective effort, the POWER Act passed in City Council in May 2025, granting over 750,000 Philadelphia workers\u2014regardless of immigration status\u2014new protections against retaliation, stronger enforcement mechanisms, and access to immigration certifications and financial remedies, more details can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.domesticworkers.org\/campaign-updates\/750000-workers-in-philly-now-have-new-labor-protections-with-the-power-act\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">here<\/a> from our compa\u00f1eros in the PA Chapter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance.
