Half Mad Honey is a local small business founded by Amelia and Natasha Pham that connects mental health advocacy with the practice of beekeeping. Their goal is to empower people who face mental health challenges by providing therapeutic, nature-based experiences outside of traditional clinical settings. The founders are passionate about both beekeeping and fostering a supportive community, working to remove the stigma often associated with mental illness.
The company offers “Apiary Therapy,” which involves outdoor sessions near the beehives, focusing on skills like mindfulness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. These sessions serve as an alternative method of therapy and are available on select weekends from June through October. This approach not only helps participants build confidence but also allows them to connect with nature in a safe and calming environment.
Beyond the mental wellness focus, Half Mad Honey is dedicated to environmental stewardship and bee population sustainability. They teach proper beekeeping practices, offer hive tours, and sell various honey and handmade products. By promoting agriculture and apiculture, particularly within the queer community, the founders are working to diversify and energize the beekeeping industry while making a positive impact on both human and bee communities.
