Philadelphia officials have launched a citywide competition, inviting local artists to design the official poster for the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, known as America 250. This initiative aims to find a creative design that will serve as the centerpiece of the city’s celebratory efforts for this major national milestone. The winning artwork is intended to capture the historical and cultural essence of the city.
The contest is open exclusively to residents of Philadelphia, welcoming submissions in any visual art medium, including illustrations, paintings, and mixed media. Artists must create an original, vertically oriented piece that positively and inspirationally commemorates the semiquincentennial. The design should highlight Philadelphia’s history, reflect national pride, and point toward a hopeful future. Entries must incorporate the phrases “America 250” and “Philadelphia” in the artwork.
The stakes for the competition are significant, with the artist behind the winning design receiving a cash prize of $5,000. This top design will be recognized as the city’s official commemorative poster, featured in national print and digital publications, and considered for display in various public venues. Second and third place winners will also be awarded cash prizes of $3,000 and $2,000, respectively, and their art will be showcased in local promotional materials.
